Mission Statement

The Guidance Department mission is to create a dynamic environment that goes beyond academics by infusing arts along with working collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, administrators and the overall community.

Vision Statement

Lady's Island Elementary (LIES) School Counseling Program is designed to maximize development of students in an environment that recognizes and nurtures students. There is a shared responsibility for the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students with an enhanced focus on arts integration. School Counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential in a safe nonjudgmental place for students to express feelings. The comprehensive school counseling program enhances students interpersonal skills and self- worth to encourage students to be successful learners, responsible citizens, and productive members of a global society by working collaboratively with parents, teachers, and the community to ensure that each student is successful.

Individual Counseling

Students may meet with our counselor individually to discuss any issues throughout the year. A student may refer themselves by filling out a guidance form or by letting his/her teacher know. Teachers or parents may also refer children at any time by contacting Mr. Laniear. Some concerns students may want to discuss include: illness or death of a loved one, separation or divorce of parents, conflicts with friends or siblings, and/or any concerns that are interfering with academic performance or social development.

Parents must give permission for their child to have continuous counseling sessions.

Group Counseling

The school counselor lead small groups on varying topics, for grades K through 5, to provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. Administrators, teachers, and parents may refer students to participate in small groups. Small group topics include but are not limited to: anger management, friendship, grief, social skills, changing families, organization, anxiety, and deployment.

Parents/Guardians may complete an "Opt-Out" request form if they do not wish to have their student participate in small group counseling. If you choose not to opt out, you will be notified if your child is chosen to participate in a small group.
