WELCOME TO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

2019-2020 Lady's Island Staff

Dear Osprey Families,

Welcome back to the start of the 2019-20 school year! I am confident that this year will be an awesome school year for our school community. Our focus is on building authentic relationships and engaging our community. I am a firm believer in the power of a strong village--a group of people who continuously nurture and encourage someone to help them reach their potential.  Parents will play a critical role in helping us meet students’ individual needs. We want to know your child’s strengths and preferences, and we want to partner with you.

We'd love to roll out the red carpet for you as you visit our school--look for smiling faces and prompt attention to your family's needs. You can help us by providing the best contact numbers and keeping us informed of changes to those needs. Ms. Linda Bennett is our school social worker and would love to assist you.

Please be reminded of a few items of policy and law as we begin the year:

  • Safety is more important than ever in the wake of recent events.  It's never going to be convenient as more layers are added and more time is required. We have a new entrance fence, new crosswalks, and new sidewalk ramps.
  • Please be mindful of speed and be watchful when in the car line.
  • Anyone picking up a student must present a valid ID and either be a parent/legal guardian or listed on their pickup sheet.
  • Report safety concerns immediately to us so that we can resolve them quickly.
  • The Federal Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA...the school version of HIPAA) does not allow the school to share certain information including another child's consequences for an infraction that also involves your child.  We will always give students due process and consider all of the facts as well as the context.

You must be an approved volunteer to chaperone a field trip.  You cannot sign up the day before and expect to attend.  The background check process takes approximately two weeks.

We look forward to working together and creating many memorable learning experiences and family events through our STEAM curriculum, arts offerings, and house program. Join our PTO and complete the volunteer application, because we want you to be involved. We are thankful for the opportunity to be a part of your child’s educational journey. Follow us on Facebook and visit our website from time to time. Let’s all do our part to make this an awesome year for all students!

Yours in Learning,
Marvelle Ulmer, Principal
