Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome back to the start of the 2018-19 school year!  I am committed to ensuring that this year stands out as one of the best years ever for the students and staff at Lady’s Island Elementary!  Our goal this year is to share our story, and to believe in magic.

Our theme is “Creating Magic” in little and big things.

  • Our custodians will create magic by cleaning up spills and unsafe conditions quickly.

  • In the cafeteria, the team will prepare adequate quantities of delicious meals.

  • All staff will work diligently to learn students’ names and to build healthy relationships through our houses: Umholi, Idala, Umsizi, and Ajamu. Each student and staff member is assigned to a house, which is a school family and a great way to take care of each other.

  • House shirts are being sold for $8.00 and can be purchased online or at the school.

It’s going to be so cool when everyone wears the shirt!!!  Magic is created in the extra effort to prepare the learning environment, create engaging lessons, and learn the uniqueness of each student.  I can’t wait to experience the magic with each student and staff member!

As a mother of four children, your child’s safety is very important to me.  The rules, procedures, and school practices implemented create an environment that allows students to learn, play, and explore in a safe zone.  Students are an important part of our safety protocols.  As a result, they participate in drills, know to look for an ID badge, and will not open exterior doors without permission from an adult.  Sheriff PJ Tanner stated, “Safety is not convenient.”  I understand that adhering to the rules may require some extra time or preplanning, and I want to thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to ensure the safety of everyone in our school community.  Visitors and guests must enter and exist through the front office.  In addition, bullying will not be tolerated.  Students are asked to report any act of bullying to school personnel or use the district’s “See Something Say Something” App.  Please contact me if you have questions or other suggestions regrading safety.

In closing, I am super excited about all of the opportunities that lie ahead, and I am thrilled to work with you and your child this year.  Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, YOU CAN DO IT!”  I am dreaming of a magical year, and I know it’s possible with this amazing team, your support, and the hard work of our students.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Marvelle Ulmer
