Ms. Julia Rion

Hello My Name Is...

Ms. Julia Rion

Julia Rion, Library Media Specialist

I am settling into and feeling like a member of the Lady's Island Elementary family. Although the
2019-2020 school year ended with a challenge for us all, I was so proud to be a part of what we were able to do for our students! So far this school year, we are overcoming continued adversity to learn together safely, check out library books, and film the morning news show. I am  loving continuing our traditions.
I grew up in Georgetown County and attended the University of South Carolina
in Columbia for my undergraduate degree and again for my Master’s in Library and Information Science. I worked as a school librarian in Cherry Hill, New Jersey,
for 20 years before moving to Beaufort. I am also an advocate for effective use of educational technology.
I continue to work with our staff to help LIES students build research skills and become
informed, respectful digital citizens.
Outside of school, I like to read, to garden, and to spend time with my dog, Woody, and my cat, Henry.
My oldest daughter works as a School Counselor for Buncombe County, NC Schools (Asheville).
Her younger sister lives in Philadelphia--where she grew up. The hardest sacrifice for me during this pandemic has been spending less time with my family. My happiest times are with my girls, hiking, riding bikes, cooking together, and playing board games. Being with "my Lady's Island kiddos" is the next best thing and means the world to me as we move forward into a brighter future.
